In the latest events in Ukraine, missiles that are believed to come from Russia killed three people in the Volyn area, which is in the northwest of Ukraine.
The head of that region, Yuriy Poguliaiko, said a factory in Lutsk was hit by a missile and many people got hurt. At the same time, buildings in Lviv, a city in the west, were damaged, but no one died there.
Ukraine’s air defense team managed to stop 16 out of 28 missiles sent by Russia during the night.
People in Lviv and Volyn heard warning sirens for two hours because of the attacks.
In Lutsk, a factory that belongs to a Swedish company called SKF was hit. Their spokesperson, Carl Bjernstam, said three of their workers died because of this.
Many houses in Lutsk were damaged, mostly from pieces of missiles that were shot down. The Mayor of Lviv, Andriy Sadovyi, said over 100 buildings in his city were harmed. A playground in Lviv also had a big hole from a missile. Four people were hurt there, but they will be okay.
A resident of Lviv named Dmytro Ivaschyshyn talked about how scared children were, hiding in bathrooms.
There were also reports of damage in other cities like Ivano-Frankivsk and Dnipropetrovsk. Two people died in Kramatorsk, which is in the east.
Lastly, it’s important to remember that all this started when Russia’s President, Vladimir Putin, decided to attack Ukraine in February 2022. Even though the western part of Ukraine, near Poland, was safe before, it’s now seeing more attacks. Just last month, a missile hit an apartment in Lviv and killed 10 people.
